The Client: Sziget Festival

Sziget is one of Europe’s largest music and cultural festivals, held annually in Budapest on the “Island of Freedom.” For the 2014 and 2015 editions, the goal was to consolidate the brand’s presence in Italy, attracting a young audience with vibrant, chaotic, and energetic visual communication.

Collaboration: Alternativa Events

The project was executed in synergy with Alternativa Events, the official partner agency for Italy. My role was to translate the festival’s international guidelines into executive materials suitable for the Italian market, ensuring local promotion maintained the same visual impact as the global campaign.

Brochures & Programs

The main challenge was information architecture. With hundreds of artists and stages, brochures had to be compact yet readable. I designed fold-out layouts organizing the lineup by days and genres, creating a clear visual map guiding “Szitizens” (attendees) through the festival week.

Visual Identity 2014-2015

Those editions were characterized by a very colorful, almost psychedelic aesthetic, with circus and natural elements. I adapted these key visuals for Italian print formats, ensuring the explosion of colors remained sharp and impactful on every medium, from glossy paper to PVC banners.

Official Merchandise

Not just paper, but fabric too. I worked on adapting graphics for official merchandise sold or distributed in Italy (t-shirts, bags, passes). The design had to transform the festival logo and dates into a cult object, a wearable memory expressing belonging to the Sziget community.

Advertising Material

I managed graphics for the poster and flyer campaign distributed in Italian clubs and universities. Posters had to grab attention in crowded environments: I used bold typography and strong chromatic contrasts to highlight headliners and call-to-actions for ticket purchases.

Cultural Adaptation

Communication for Italy required a specific touch. Beyond translating text, I graphically highlighted Italian artists in the lineup and logistical information for organized trips from Italy, customizing the informational experience for the national target.

Print Management

A festival requires durable materials. I supervised the pre-press phase, choosing paper weights capable of withstanding a week of camping and concerts. Color profile management was crucial to maintain the vibrancy of Sziget’s original illustrations.

Gadgets & Media Kits

For partners and press, presentation kits and customized gadgets were created. I designed the packaging and customization of these items, ensuring every brand touchpoint conveyed the atmosphere of celebration and freedom characterizing the event.

Results & Achievements

The produced material effectively supported the sales campaign in Italy for the 2014-2015 biennium, recording an increase in Italian attendees. The visual coherence between informational material and merchandise strengthened Sziget’s brand awareness as the unmissable summer event.
