The Client: Ristorante D&D
D&D is not a reference to the role-playing game, but a tribute to family. The name stems from the initials of the owner’s daughters, the heartbeat of the business. The restaurant combines the art of traditional Italian frying with the refinement of gourmet cuisine, requiring an image that elevated the concept of “fried food” to a luxury experience.
The Concept: Family Bonds
The visual identity is born from the concept of an unbreakable bond. The two “D”s are not separate letters but parts of a single flow. The design needed to represent the emotional family tie that translates into passion for cooking, communicating warmth and sophistication simultaneously.
Logo Design: The Monogram
The logo is a refined monogram created with a continuous line technique. A single black stroke draws both “D” letters without ever lifting off the page. The curves are wide and soft, evoking elegance and fluidity, characteristics also reflected in the service management and dishes.
The Symbolic Intertwining
At the meeting point of the two letters, the lines cross to create a central knot. This weave takes on a shape vaguely recalling a stylized heart or an abstract ampersand (&). It is the brand’s focal point, a symbol of the union between the two sisters and the two culinary worlds (tradition and gourmet).
Minimalist Typography
In contrast to the pictogram’s softness, the payoff “RISTORANTE – FRIGGITORIA – GOURMET” is set in a geometric, thin, all-uppercase sans-serif font. The wide spacing between letters (tracking) adds breath and a sensation of modern luxury and cleanliness.
Palette & Materials
The provided image shows the application on textured paper, suggesting a tactile approach to branding. Black on a white/cream background is a classic choice that never ages. This essential bichromy allows the logo to be easily applied to menus, linens, and window decals without losing readability.
Signage & Decoration
The project extended beyond paper. The continuous line logo was transformed into physical elements for signage and interior decoration. The fluid lines of the mark became furnishing details, creating a visual thread guiding the customer from the entrance to the table.
Gourmet Fry Shop
The challenge was to ennoble the term “Friggitoria” (Fry Shop). Graphic design played a crucial role: the logo’s thin, sophisticated lines distance the imagery from chaotic street food, positioning the venue in a high-end dining tier where even fried food becomes an elegant tasting experience.
