The Client: Forte srl
Forte srl combines fifty years of tradition, sustainability, and innovation in the bathroom furnishing sector. They create high-quality products with an eye towards the future. The new catalog needed to reflect this manufacturing solidity and the obsessive attention to detail that distinguishes their brand.
The Challenge: Beyond Photography
Traditional photography for shower enclosures is complex and expensive due to uncontrollable reflections and tight spaces. The challenge was to surpass photographic realism, creating perfect virtual environments where the product was the absolute hero, free from the logistical limits of a physical set.
Agency Collaboration
The project was born in close synergy with the creative agency “Trecentosessantunogradi.” I worked as a 3D specialist integrated into their workflow, translating the agency’s creative briefs and Forte’s specific technical needs into high-impact digital images for print.
3D Modeling: Precision
I modeled every single component of the shower enclosures in 3ds Max, starting from technical drawings provided by the company. Aluminum profiles, handles, hinges, and seals were recreated with millimeter precision to ensure the digital model was an exact twin of the physical product.
The Material Challenge
Glass and chromed metal are among the most difficult materials to render due to the complexity of their physical behaviors. I dedicated significant time to creating Maxwell shaders to realistically simulate the refraction of transparent glass and the specular reflections of metal parts.
The Art of Lighting
Light is fundamental in product rendering. I studied lighting setups that enhanced geometric shapes without creating distracting reflections on large glass panels. The goal was soft, natural light conveying a sense of cleanliness, luxury, and well-being, typical of the bathroom environment.
Virtual Set Dressing
Not just the product, but the context. I modeled the surrounding bathroom environments—textured tiles, designer faucets, furnishing elements—to place the shower enclosures in aspirational scenarios that enhanced Forte’s product design without distraction.
The Engine: Maxwell Render
The choice of Maxwell Render was strategic. It is an “unbiased” (physically correct) engine that, while requiring long calculation times, offers unparalleled photorealism and light quality, essential for high-end products where material rendition is everything.
Post-Production & Details
The raw renders from Maxwell were refined in post-production. I worked on balancing contrasts and correcting color casts to ensure the images printed in the catalog were vibrant, clean, and perfectly faithful to the reality of the product.
Results & Achievements
The result is a visually rich catalog that elevates the perception of Forte’s product. The photorealistic renders allowed the company to present the new collection with total control over aesthetics and variants, significantly saving on the costs and logistics of a traditional photo shoot.
